Coaching Sessions with Lee Avery
Over the last couple of months, a group of Finch Coasters, myself included, have been ‘enjoying’ taking part in coaching sessions on Friday nights with UK Athletics coach Lee Avery. I, for one, have found these coaching sessions to be highly motivating and rewarding. You feel great afterwards anyway!! Lee has managed to introduce a great variety of training sessions and techniques for all abilities and has pushed us hard. She has a knack for staying inside your head and encouraging you even when she is not actually there... – watch out for those of us that are now equipped with an ‘inner Lee’ pushing us up those hills in the XC season!
However – if you have not yet benefitted from Lee’s advice and encouragement, all is not lost. Here is your opportunity. Lee is setting up several more coaching sessions over the coming months, including one especially for Finch Coasters at 18:30 on Friday nights, meeting outside Bracknell Sports and Arts Centre. This will be a £3.50 pay per session. The first session will be on Friday 23rd September. I can’t recommend this highly enough and I think that this is fantastic value. Even better, if you sign up for five consecutive weeks, the price will be discounted to £15 (or £3 per session). During the first session on 23rd September, Lee will go through some technical analysis and drills so if you haven’t worked with Lee before, please make an effort to come along to this session. If you want to join the sessions at a later date, this is fine but Lee has suggested that you email her and arrange to meet her at 18:00 so she can go through the drills prior to the session starting (this will be an additional £2). If these coaching sessions are well-supported then we hope to make them a permanent part of our running schedule, so please do come along.
Lee has said the following about herself.
“I am a level 2 UK Athletics coach who over the years has competed in many distances from 100 metres to marathons and duathlons on track, road and cross country both as an individual and part of a team. I like to make sessions, enjoyable and challenging through various techniques and drills. My rewards are from seeing people obtain their results and increase their speed whilst (hopefully) staying injury free. “
Other sessions that Lee will be running are as follows. These will be open to Coasters as well as the general public. To clarify, Beginners are people who are new to running – i.e. your friends, partner or spouse may be beginners, but if you run regularly (at all) then you are not a Beginner (whatever your speed!!)
